Welcome to Tori’s Birthday month. It’s not that we are lazy, it’s just that this month we wanted to do a short story by Ambrose Bierce and discuss his general weirdness. This week we are discussing An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.

To Drink Along:
A Brandy Sangaree
- 2 oz Brandy
- 1 oz Port wine
- Maraschino Cherry and juice to taste
Mix together and pour in a tasteful glass. Review Ambrose Bierce’s entry in the Devil’s Dictionary for Brandy:
BRANDY, n. A cordial composed of one part thunder-and-lightning, one
part remorse, two parts bloody murder, one part death-hell-and-the-
grave and four parts clarified Satan. Dose, a headful all the time.
Brandy is said by Dr. Johnson to be the drink of heroes. Only a hero
will venture to drink it.
